The Taigan is a Kyrgyzs dog breed found high in the mountains above 2000 meters close to the border with China. The Taigan is known for its speed and is used for hunting foxes and wolves. They work together alongside the eagles of the eagle hunters. The Kyrgyzs Taigan is a very rare dog breed with an estimated of only 300 individuals left, and is the national dog of Kyrgyzstan.
Kurut is a snack from dried and fermented yoghurt with salt. Kurut is a very important source of protein within the nomadic culture of Kyrgyzstan. Because it’s dried Kurut can be stored for months, ideal for the long distances the nomads need to cover.
The Kyrgyzs nomadic people dry their meat to preserve for a very long time.
Kymyz is a traditional drink in Kyrgyzstan. It’s fermented horse milk containing alcohol, and is a little fizzy. The Kyrgyz nomadic people serve kymyz on special occasions and to guests.
A Kalpak is the traditional hat of Kyrgyzstan. The Kalpak is only worn by men, the taller the hat the higher the status of the man.
The Kalpak is shaped like the mountains of the Tien Shan mountains and is made of white sheeps felt, representing the snow capped peaks. The hats are decorated with symbols saying something about the owner.
